Need Bell Advice (ADSL2+ Bridge mode + faster

Like the other bell modems that people here flash to unlock (ie the 4200, 5200 etc..), the bell 2wire 2701 modem can also apparently be flashed and unlock by putting a 2700 firmware on it.

From what I have seen it works well.

I do believe this enables you to have access to the functions you want.

Directions and topic found here:
»Unlocking bell 2wire modems....
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,21158466?hilite=2wire+firmware

All questions about it should be made there i guess.

If you try it let us know how it goes.

If you brick it, call bell and say its defective, play dumb. Besides with the modem fee doubling like it has, you bought and paid for the modem a few times over...

It syncs, but i can't get it to PPPOE login. I put B1*****@bell.ca for the login, right? If i just put the username it adds @singtel to the rest (its singtel firmware)

And i got no reason to try to scam bell. That modem doesn't work in my application, getting a new identical one wont help me. I'll probably buy the speedstream, since i was reading about the 2700 exploit, and i'm not thrilled about taking that kind of risk.

I think you have to change the VPI/VCI on it to 0/35

Not sure if this will work:

    - Clear the 2wire to Factory State (hold little button on the back down for 30 seconds)
    - Browse to »192.168.1.254 (or whatever the IP for the singtel is)
    - Click on the broadband Link icon
    - Click on Advanced settings
    - Enter VPI 0 and VCI 35
    - Click on Disable PVC Search
    - Set Connection Type to Direct IP
    - Click Submit/Save

Now for the @singtel problem, I'm not sure.

Ask in that topic. Someone there for sure by now came across it and a fix most likely.

or maybe you can flash the AT&T firmware on it... dunno.

But the VPI/VCI is important to set. However this may not fix your @singtel problem.

yeah after reviewing that topic, they initially started using the singtel firmware. So there should be people in that topic and that forum that can give you a hand. Best place to ask is there.

If you buy a speedstream make sure you get one that's ADSL2+. I forget the model number... 516 I think? There are a couple and some with router features. But you only need the basic, so I think the 516 may be good enough for you.

Again the best support area for the speedstream 516 will likely be that teksavvy forum. Most use that model there.

Keep us informed of how it goes. I seen the @singtel problem before but damned if I can find that topic.. Ask there. Its your Best chance.

From what I read the firmware to use is the:
    "2wire_reinstall_voice_5.29.117.3.2sp"
    Not sure about the others.

try getting to this page on the 2wire
    gateway.2wire.net/tech/upgrade.html

    then reflash with this firm
Or ask someone in the teksavvy forum if they have it for you to try.

    You assume all risks...

    Refer to »www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/show···st222693 as well.
    http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=222693#post222693

and don't forget to have the prorer VCI/VPI settings.

Questions should be directed in that teksavvy forum »Got screwed with 2wire modem. What now? for help.

I'm just typing this as I read it.

Your modem IS syncing at 4-meg. Also never heard of this type of problem you describe. But doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

You may lose all setting in it though....

Reset instructions here: »Alcatel/Thomson Speedtouch modem FAQ »How do I do a hard reset of my Speedtouch Home or Pro modem?

    http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6101

I don't know much about this modem...

How do I do a hard reset of my Speedtouch Home or Pro modem?
Turn the power off. Look at the back of the modem and you will see a Reset or Defaults hole. Get a ball-point pen and press the button in the hole while turning the modem on. Continue to hold the button in until ALL of the lights on the modem start to flash simultaneously.

This will reset the modem back to factory defaults, and may recover your modem after you have made a mistake in changing some of the settings and don't know how to change them back.
